MANAGER, FINANCIAL SECTOR PROGRAMS (MANAGER 1) IN THE CENTRAL BANK OF KENYA INSTITUTE OF MONETARY STUDIES (CBK-IMS)

Job Purpose

The role holder will be required to research, design, market, and implement quality and customer driven training programs in banking and the financial sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities
1. Develop strategic training programs for the banking and financial sector at the Institute
2. Engage partners in forums on emerging issues of mutual interest in banking and the financial sector
3. Engage strategic partners to develop and offer specialized capacity building in areas of mutual interest.
4. Elevate, and operationalize the Institute’s intellectual voice in the leadership and management sector, positioning it as a credible Centre of excellence and knowledge hub.
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
1. Develop and deliver training programs for the financial sector in line with CBK guidelines and regulations to foster prudent management of financial institutions.
2. Develop market-driven executive programs for Senior Management and Board Members of Financial Institutions
3. Identify and recruit specialized experts to facilitate high level training, workshops, seminars, webinars and conferences targeting the banking and financial sector.
4. Collaborate and support the development of quality digital learning content and resources for delivery within the Institute’s LMS.
5. Conduct and identify training needs for banking and the financial sector.
6. Develop and prepare annual training calendar
7. Monitor customer service through continuous program evaluations and customer satisfaction surveys for program improvement.
8. Develop and implement marketing plans in support of the Institute’s training objectives and financial targets.
9. Respond to training enquiries by sector players, stakeholders, partners and service providers.
10. Preparation of performance reports in line with approved objectives and work plans.

Other Responsibilities
1. Mentor and coach other staff
2. Draft talking notes for various levels of speakers and resource persons.
3. Develop and monitor training and workshop budgets
4. Design and develop promotional materials including brochures, folders and memorabilia.
5. Provide assessment-based training according to client needs and the industry.
6. Monitor the development of training materials and promotional materials
7. Monitor the delivery and evaluation of programs to ensure quality while meeting training objectives and participants’ expectations.
8. Monitor the implementation of training programs to ensure quality and effective customer service.
9. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Division/ Management

Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in Finance, Public Policy, Economics, Banking, or a related field
2. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Banking & Finance or a related discipline
3. Certification in Project Management, Policy Development, Risk Management or Strategic Management
4. PhD in Business Management or related field is an added advantage
5. Membership to a relevant professional association or body is an added advantage

Work Experience

Minimum of Ten (10) years of relevant working experience

Competencies

1. Understanding of national banking regulations, licensing rules, and prudential standards.
2. Stakeholder coordination with financial institutions, regulators, donors, and technical partners.
3. Demonstrate experience in training with knowledge of trends in skills training and development of training programs
4. An understanding of instructional design principles to create structured, effective training programs for financial professionals.
5. Knowledge of adult learning theories and methodologies (e.g., experiential learning, self-directed learning, blended learning) to tailor training programs for different employee skill levels and roles.
6. Curriculum Development: Ability to develop and update comprehensive curricula that cover key financial concepts, compliance issues, customer service, financial software, and other specialized areas.
7. Ability to design short, targeted learning modules that are easily digestible for financial professionals, focusing on specific skills or knowledge.
8. Ability to translate complex financial topics into clear, engaging, and accessible training content for various audiences.
9. Ability to design and develop data collection tools to facilitate the development of market driven capacity building programs
10. Ability to develop tools and methods to measure effectiveness of training programs
