The role holder will support the Manager, Internal Audit to independently assess, test, and report on the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls of processes within the bank. The role holder may also serve as a team leader on audit engagements.
1. Participate in the preparation of the annual risk assessment and audit plan.
2. Prepare and execute scheduled risk-based audits including planning, execution, reporting and follow-up in accordance with accepted professional standards.
3. Develop the risk control matrix for audit assignments for efficient and effective execution of audit assignments.
4. Perform walkthroughs and document business processes and workflows for processes under review.
5. Maintain comprehensive, relevant and accurate working papers for audit assignments done.
6. Document all working papers in line with methodology requirements in the audit management system. The working papers must be accurate, reflective of work performed and support conclusions drawn.
7. Develop productive relationships with process owners throughout the audit cycle.
8. Complete audit assignments within the set timelines and communicate the status of on-going assignments to the team leader throughout the engagement.
9. Prepare draft audit reports with audit observations, risks and recommendations for review by the team leader.
10. Lead, coach and provide on-the-job training and guidance to assurance associates.
11. Conduct periodic follow-up of prior audit recommendations.
12. Implement audit tools to improve audit efficiencies - use technology, data analysis tools and other modern tools to drive automation.
13. Develop scripts for the implementation of automated control monitoring.
14. Support team leaders in special audits, investigations and/or ad-hoc projects whenever necessary.
15. Comply with Bank policies, practices and procedures.
16. Arrange for audit meetings and follow-up as needed.
17. Manage documents, files and electronic information in an organized, efficient and secure manner.
18. Witness disposal and destruction of unserviceable notes and obsolete documents as per laid down procedures
19. Carry out periodic inventory counts as and when required of cash, consumable items, etc.
20. Perform administrative tasks as assigned.
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in, Accounting, Management, Economics, Finance, or related discipline from a reputable university.
2. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) / ACCA qualification is mandatory.
3. Membership in a relevant professional institute and in good standing is mandatory.
4. Professional qualification(s) and membership in any of the following is an added advantage:
a. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
b. Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
At least three (3) years’ relevant audit experience with an established audit firm/accounting firm or institution of similar size and complexity.
Technical Competencies
1. Strong technical skills in banking, auditing and accounting concepts.
2. Technical knowledge and experience in audit, risk and control frameworks
3. Knowledge of Internal Audit Methodology (e.g., International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) and Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) 2013).
4. Knowledge of data analytics tools and Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs).
